“Spark Joy” is an exhibition by two local artists, Carollyne Sinclaire and Pamela Duncan, which opens Oct. 8, 2022 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Oct. 29.

Duncan leans toward landscapes and paints with both oil and acrylic. Sinclaire is more whimsical, with paintings of objects ranging from donuts to candy bars and flowers, and she usually paints in acrylic, but also in oil.

Virtual Gallery: Artists on Main Osoyoos celebrates past and present at annual exhibition

Artists On Main Osoyoos opened their annual show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, Sept. 10. “Past & Present” runs until Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022.

The theme “Past & Present” refers to the group of local painters who have been part of the Osoyoos arts scene since 1950. Initially, they were known as Painters and Potters, including both. Today, Osoyoos Potters is a separate group.

The show includes recent works by current members, but it also has a number of paintings by former members, some of whom are now deceased.

Summer Artisan Market runs from June to September at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The annual Summer Artisan Market opens Saturday, June 4 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 5.

The market features the work of Osoyoos artists and artisans and includes affordable pieces from painters, potters, photographers, quilters and others. It is geared both to local shoppers and browsers and tourists.

Throughout the summer, some artists may change their exhibit space, so it’s worth checking back again throughout the summer to see what is new.

OIB emerging artist Taylor Baptiste inspired by land and Syilx culture

Taylor Baptiste, an emerging artist from the Osoyoos Indian Band, opened her first solo exhibition at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, May 7. The show, “We Are of The Land,” runs until Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Baptiste is the daughter of Richard and Colleen Baptiste and she grew up in Nk’Mip between the mountains and Osoyoos Lake. She draws inspiration from that land and from Syilx Okanagan Nation culture and traditions.

Fabric artist R. Leslie Forbes opens Fabrinata exhibition at Osoyoos gallery

Osoyoos fabric artist R. Leslie Forbes is showing her work at The Art Gallery Osoyoos from April 9 to April 30, 2022 in her solo show titled Fabrinata.

She “paints” with fabric, wool, threads and other media to create boldly coloured, large fantastic scenes. She dies her fabrics to create her desired colour palette.

Local FCA painters hold annual exhibition at gallery

The South Okanagan-Similkameen Chapter of the Canadian Federation of Artists opened their exhibition of paintings on Saturday, March 12 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos. The show runs until Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Virtual Gallery: Osoyoos photographer Greg Reely opens solo show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

Osoyoos photographer Greg Reely opened his first solo show, Photoscapes, at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The show runs until March 5, 2022.

“I’m really excited for my first solo gallery show,” said Reely. “I just hope I gain some new fans and maybe sell a couple of framed prints. That would be nice.”

Reely, who is president of the Osoyoos Photography Club, has often displayed at the gallery, but always as part of a show with other artists. He often posts his photos on social media and has a booth at Osoyoos Market on Main during the summer.

Reely’s work captures local landscapes, celestial skies, weather events, birds and more. It often features an otherworldly quality due to extensive post processing and multiple exposures. His work is mostly digital, but he often shoots the original image on film.

He prints on a variety of media, including canvas, metal, acrylic and regular framed prints.

Virtual Gallery: The Art Gallery Osoyoos displays Poster Contest entries and winner

The winning poster entry is titled “Suburban Sunset” and was done in pastel by Prabhnoor Samra, a grade 11 student at Osoyoos Secondary School. The image is inspired by “The Chief,” a metal sculpture by Virgil “Smoker” Marchand that stands outside the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre.

Grade 11 student Prabhnoor Samra’s pastel image “Suburban Sunset” was selected the winner of The Art Gallery Osoyoos’ Poster Contest.

The image was selected by a panel of outside judges, who also considered submissions by more experienced local artists. An exhibition of the entries opens Saturday, January 15 at the gallery and runs until Saturday, February 5, 2022.

Samra, a student at Osoyoos Secondary School, was the only high school student to enter the contest. The judges did not know the identities of the artists when they made their decision.

Virtual Gallery: Christmas Artisan Market opens at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The annual Christmas Artisan Market, “Under the Tree,” opens Saturday, November 6 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Monday, December 20.

The market features the work of Osoyoos artists and artisans and includes affordable pieces from painters, potters, photographers, quilters and others. It is geared to local shoppers and browsers, and tourists, but the focus is on items that make great holiday gifts.

Throughout the exhibition, some artists may change their exhibit space, so it’s worth checking back again during the next month and a half to see what is new.

Artists On Main Osoyoos opened their annual show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Thursday, Oct. 7. “Big, Little, and Just Right” runs until Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.

The group, consisting mainly of local painters, has been a part of the Osoyoos arts scene since 1950. They welcome both accomplished artists and those who are newer to painting and wish to improve.
