Two area women launch show of paintings and fabric sculptures at TAGO
Two area women launched an exhibition of paintings and fabric sculptures on Saturday, Oct. 7 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos (TAGO) titled Wings & Whimsical Things. The show runs until Oct. 28.
Maureen Walker, a Keremeos-area artist who has displayed at TAGO in the past, does fabric sculpture figures, some of them life sized.
Kathryn Ross, who retired to Coldstream near Vernon, paints birds and animals, usually in oils, but sometimes acrylics, when she is not riding her horses.
Walker has a background in graphic and floral design, as well as years of sewing and crafting. These skills were a good fit for her when she discovered fabric sculpting in 2018. She gathers clothes and other props at thrift stores. The sculptures start with a wire armature and she “fleshes them out” with aluminum foil, glue, tape and fabric before applying Paverpol, a hardening agent.
Ross, originally from London, Ontario, took up painting when she lived at Cochrane, Alberta. She paints abstracts, realistic art, and impressionism, and is inspired by birds, wildlife, and her horses.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It is located at 8713 Main St. in Osoyoos, B.C., just west of Town Hall.
