Virtual Gallery: Summer Artisan Market runs at The Art Gallery Osoyoos until September

The annual Summer Artisan Market opened Thursday, June 24 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 6.

The market features the work of Osoyoos artists and artisans and includes affordable pieces from painters, potters, photographers, quilters and others. It is geared both to local shoppers and browsers and tourists.

Throughout the summer, some artists may change their exhibit space, so it’s worth checking back again throughout the summer to see what is new.

Virtual Gallery: Painting with wax is theme of show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

Encaustic painting is the art of painting with hot bees wax to which pigments have been added. That’s the theme of an exhibition titled “Waxing Poetic” that opened Thursday, May 27 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs to Saturday, June 19.

The show includes the work of regional artists who go by the name Canwax West. All the pieces use the encaustic process, but some include other media. Most are paintings, but a few pieces are three dimensional wax sculptures.

The wax, with added Damar resin, is applied in layers with each layer fused to the one below using an encaustic iron, heat gun or torch. Some works are finished with a coat of shellac. Continue reading “Virtual Gallery: Painting with wax is theme of show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos”

Virtual Gallery: Mother and daughter, Darlene and Tracy Fillion, open gallery show of clay and textiles

The show Kindred Hands: Textiles and Clay was scheduled for May 2020 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos, but Covid cancelled it. A year later, mother and daughter Darlene and Tracy Fillion have opened their show with Covid precautions in place.

The show opens Thursday, April 29 and runs to Saturday, May 22, 2021.

Darlene is a local potter whose work ranges from decorative wall hangings to more functional bowls and cups along with little ceramic flowers on logs and bark.

Tracy Fillion has a home studio near Nelson, B.C., where she operates We Are Stories, a textile company. She designs, cuts, prints and sews primarily eco and thoughtfully sourced materials. Virtual Gallery: Painter Lyse Deselliers opens solo show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

Painter Lyse Deselliers opened a solo exhibition of her work on Thursday, April 1 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos. The show, “Our Lakes: Connecting the Dots,” runs until Saturday, April 24, 2021.

The theme of the show is the lakes of the Okanagan basin and the waterways that connect them. Deselliers has gathered comments from people in the communities of the Okanagan who are active in protecting and celebrating these lakes, which she displays with her paintings.

Virtual Gallery: Osoyoos Quilters Guild opens exhibition at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The Osoyoos Quilters Guild opened their exhibition, Quilts Etc., at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Thursday, Feb. 4. The show runs until Saturday, Feb. 27.

The show is open for in-person viewing from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday, however Covid restrictions are in effect. This online “Virtual Gallery” is available with some of the highlights for those who are observing Covid travel restrictions, or otherwise can’t make it to the gallery.

Life Goes On: Artists on Main show their work in Virtual Gallery

This is the third “Virtual Gallery” offered by OsoyoosPersists.ca and featuring the work of local artists. The Art Gallery Osoyoos has been closed since March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The gallery now plans to open on June 13 for its Summer Artisan Market, but opening hours will be restricted and other measures aimed at keeping the public safe will also be implemented. Life Goes On: Darlene and Tracy Fillion, mother and daughter, show ‘Textiles and Clay: Kindred Hands’ in Virtual Gallery

Potter Darlene Fillion and her daughter Tracy Fillion were originally scheduled to open an exhibition on May 2 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos titled “Textiles and Clay: Kindred Hands.”

With the gallery closed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Osoyoos Persists Life Goes On Virtual Gallery is featuring some of their work, just as last month we featured Focus 2020 from the Osoyoos Photography Club.

The show had been planned to launch this date at The Art Gallery Osoyoos, but obviously the gallery had to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Life Goes On: Osoyoos Photography Club exhibition Focus 2020 is first show for Virtual Gallery

The Osoyoos Photography Club (OPC) had been planning an exhibition, Focus 2020, to be held at The Art Gallery Osoyoos in April.

With the gallery closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the club is going ahead with a “virtual” exhibition in the Virtual Gallery on OsoyoosPersists.ca.
