Lyse Deselliers solo exhibit features ‘The Food We Grow’

Penticton painter Lyse Deselliers has returned to The Art Gallery Osoyoos with a new solo show, The Food We Grow.” The show opened Wednesday, May 24, 2023 and it runs until June 14.

Deselliers, who was born in Quebec City, last had a solo exhibition at TAGO in April 2021, when the theme was water. She takes the themes seriously, and for this show about growing food, she interviews local farmers or prints accounts by them. It’s a feast for the mind as well as the eye. Desert Sage Spinners & Weavers hold Fibre Arts show at TAGO

The Desert Sage Spinners & Weavers Guild opens a show, “Fibre Arts,” at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, April 29, 2023.

The show runs until Saturday, May 20.

The guild has more than 60 members from such Okanagan-Similkameen communities as Oliver, Osoyoos, Summerland, Penticton, Kaleden, Okanagan Falls, Cawston and Keremeos. The guild has been active for nearly half a century.

“Vision and Variety” is an exhibition by two BC artists, Barry Rafuse and Twyla Exner, which opens on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until April 22.

Rafuse, from the Vernon area, does large abstract paintings in mixed media and acrylic. Exner, from near Kamloops, does smaller sculptures with wires from discarded electronics.

Gallery shows paintings by local chapter of Federation of Canadian Artists

The South Okanagan-Similkameen Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists opens their exhibition of paintings on Saturday, March 4 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos. The juried show, “Beauty Is In…,” runs until Saturday, March 25, 2025.

Osoyoos Quilters open ‘Quilts Etc.’ at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The Osoyoos Quilters Guild is opening its exhibition “Quilts Etc.” at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, February 4. The show runs until Saturday, February 25, 2023.

The exhibition includes the raffle of a quilt donated by former member Lorna Fairbanks before she passed away several years ago. It was finished by guild members.

The raffle is being held to raise funds to purchase supplies for the community and charitable projects the Guild runs.

2023 Poster contest winner and entries on display at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

Local painter Pam Duncan’s oil painting “Osoyoos Evening Glow”  was selected the winner of The Art Gallery Osoyoos’ Poster Contest.

The image was selected by a panel of outside judges, who also considered submissions by other local artists. The judges did not know the identities of the artists when they made their decision. An exhibition of the entries opened Saturday, January 7 at the gallery and runs until Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Duncan leans toward landscapes and paints with both oil and acrylic. She often paints in plein air. She’s a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and Artists on Main.

Virtual Gallery: Christmas Artisan Market opens at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The annual Christmas Artisan Market, “Gifts Galore” opens Saturday, November 5 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Thursday, December 22.

The market features the work of Osoyoos artists and artisans and includes affordable pieces from painters, potters, photographers, quilters and others. It is geared to local shoppers and browsers, and tourists, but the focus is on items that make great holiday gifts.

Throughout the exhibition, some artists may change their exhibit space, so it’s worth checking back again during the next month and a half to see what is new.

“Spark Joy” is an exhibition by two local artists, Carollyne Sinclaire and Pamela Duncan, which opens Oct. 8, 2022 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Oct. 29.

Duncan leans toward landscapes and paints with both oil and acrylic. Sinclaire is more whimsical, with paintings of objects ranging from donuts to candy bars and flowers, and she usually paints in acrylic, but also in oil.

Virtual Gallery: Artists on Main Osoyoos celebrates past and present at annual exhibition

Artists On Main Osoyoos opened their annual show at The Art Gallery Osoyoos on Saturday, Sept. 10. “Past & Present” runs until Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022.

The theme “Past & Present” refers to the group of local painters who have been part of the Osoyoos arts scene since 1950. Initially, they were known as Painters and Potters, including both. Today, Osoyoos Potters is a separate group.

The show includes recent works by current members, but it also has a number of paintings by former members, some of whom are now deceased.

Summer Artisan Market runs from June to September at The Art Gallery Osoyoos

The annual Summer Artisan Market opens Saturday, June 4 at The Art Gallery Osoyoos and runs until Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 5.

The market features the work of Osoyoos artists and artisans and includes affordable pieces from painters, potters, photographers, quilters and others. It is geared both to local shoppers and browsers and tourists.

Throughout the summer, some artists may change their exhibit space, so it’s worth checking back again throughout the summer to see what is new.
